Ja’Marr Chase’s quiet Week 1 has already drawn attention, but Bleacher Report is pumping the brakes on any concern about the Cincinnati Bengals star.
In a roundup of the NFL’s “biggest overreactions” from Week 1, Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton listed the idea that Chase’s season-opening no-show is concerning.
Chase caught two of four targets for 12 yards in Cincinnati’s 33-27 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after dealing with a knee injury leading into the opener.
Moton noted, however, that slow Week 1 starts are nothing new for Chase.
“Bengals fans and fantasy football managers need to be patient,” Moton wrote.
He had just two catches for 26 yards in last season’s opener before erupting for 14 receptions, 165 yards and a touchdown in Week 2, even
with Jake Browning playing more than half the game.
The Bengals also came away from Sunday with Chase apparently showing no lingering effects from the knee issue.
Cincinnati’s next matchup will provide another test, as the Bengals visit the Houston Texans in Week 2 after Houston allowed 36 points to Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in its opener.
Considering Chase’s history of quickly rebounding from quiet openers, his 12-yard start may ultimately prove to be little more than an early-season blip.
