Cincinnati Bengals coach Zac Taylor invoked Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce while discussing Mike Gesicki’s chemistry with quarterback Joe Burrow.
Gesicki led Cincinnati with 78 receiving yards on five catches in its Week 1 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
When conversing about how the veteran finds openings for Burrow, Taylor brought up Kelce.
“It’s very similar to watching (Travis) Kelce,” Taylor said, via Bengals.com. “When you’re watching the tape, you don’t know what the route was that they ran because they just had good chemistry, and Mike is very much that way. We trust him to do it.”
Burrow harped on Gesicki’s feel for the passing game.
“He feels space at an elite level, unlike really anybody that I’ve ever been around,” Burrow said.
“He sees it like a quarterback.”
Gesicki also caught a 2-yard touchdown in the opener and has scored three times over his last six games dating back to last season.
There could be another opening waiting in Houston, as Buffalo Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid caught five passes for a career-high 130 yards against the Texans in Week 1.
Gesicki’s 78-yard opener continued a productive trend for Cincinnati, which is now 3-1 in games when he leads the team in receiving yards.
