Former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Jake Browning has landed a job with the Los Angeles Chargers after working out for the team Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Chargers worked out Browning on Tuesday, per NBC 5's Charlie Clifford, as the team searched for additional depth at quarterback. NFL insider Tom Pelissero subsequently reported that Los Angeles is signing Browning.
Browning spent four seasons with Cincinnati and emerged as a valuable backup behind Joe Burrow. He made seven starts after Burrow suffered a season-ending wrist injury in 2023, completing 70.4% of his passes for 1,936 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
His second stint as the Bengals' starter didn't go nearly as smoothly. Browning made three starts in 2025, throwing for
771 yards, six touchdowns and eight interceptions before Cincinnati turned to Joe Flacco.
The Bengals elected against extending Browning a qualifying offer following the season, allowing him to become a free agent. He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March but was released before the 2026 regular season.
Browning joins a Chargers quarterback room dealing with an injury to Trey Lance. Los Angeles placed Lance on injured reserve with a groin injury, creating a need for someone else behind Justin Herbert.
