There are plenty of sleepers of note on the Cincinnati Bengals before the regular season starts.
One could talk about a wideout such as Dohnte Meyers in the base offense. Or, on the defensive side, the idea rookie draft pick Tacario Davis could see more playing time at cornerback than expected.
But what about special teams?
Think, not returner Ke'Shawn Williams, who pushed notable Charlie Jones out of a job, but linebacker Joe Giles-Harris.
Giles-Harris is back again on the practice squad and ready for a call-up, just like last year when he had a big role over the season’s final 10 games.
"I like how this team is built," Giles-Harris told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. " I trust Darrin and I love playing for Darrin. That's why I'm here. I'm just excited
about what this group can do. There's enough talent in this room to win a lot of games and it's s on us to execute and do our part. I love the energy coming from here and how we're built so far."
That’s special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons, who has a much bigger final say on the overall roster than most outsiders would think, given the importance his unit has in all facets of the game.
Usually, the linebacker spotlight shines on whether Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter can pan out in their second seasons. But Giles-Harris, clearly, is right there as a name to know and a deep depth option, too.
