The Cincinnati Bengals thoroughly dominated the Houston Texans in Week 2, with Dexter Lawrence warping the entire game around his presence in Houston on the way to a 20-6 final score.
There wasn’t really much more to say on the topic. Joe Burrow was critical of his own play, while Lawrence’s defense played the bully.
Alas, some interesting postgame footage has started to go viral on social media. It features Texans wideout Kayshon Boutte seemingly suggesting the Bengals shouldn’t get that much credit for the end result.
“We beat ourselves,” Boutte told Aaron Wilson of KPRC2. “They wasn’t really doing nothing that we couldn’t handle. We just gotta be better in the red zone. We went there multiple times, came up with zero, bull—- offense.”
Some of
this is just normal postgame talk from an NFL player. But fans and general onlookers had a hard time taking it that way.
The Texans, clearly, couldn't handle Lawrence. Texans running backs managed 18 yards on 14 carries and CJ Stroud attempted 55 passes with no touchdowns while taking four sacks.
Feel free to call this another small victory for the Bengals: A would-be AFC contender is left picking up the pieces after an encounter with the new-look defense after a game that sort of felt like a gritty AFC playoff battle.
