Here’s an odd one: In the aftermath of the Cincinnati Bengals taking down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Baker Mayfield had some notable comments about what occurred inside Paycor Stadium.
Speaking with reporters after the game, Mayfield said that the Bucs were dealing with headset issues sporadically throughout the contest.
“We had some headset issues for quite a while, in and out,” Mayfield said. “It’s not an excuse, but when they’re testing them on the sidelines and they work fine, then you get out in between the hashes and it’s not working, it’s unfortunate.”
It’s an interesting little nugget coming out of the Bengals’ win, which featured Mayfield going 23-of-28 for just 216 yards while his offense turned the ball over four times. That
includes three fumbles lost by Mayfield.
Headsets are just one of the many things that went wrong for the Bucs, clearly. That’s a testament to the defensive rebuild by the Bengals, with Dexter Lawrence’s presence in the middle indeed freeing up the likes of Boye Mafe and Cashius Howell for big plays, never mind indeed making life easier on linebackers Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter.
