Houston Texans pass rushers Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter felt familiar to Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher, as he compared Houston's star tandem to Cincinnati's own Ja'Marr Chase-Tee Higgins combination.
This idea came when he discussed Sunday's Week 2 matchup, via Bengals.com.
"It's a little bit like what the combination of Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins does to defenses," Pitcher said. "Pick your poison a little bit."
Pitcher explained that devoting extra protection toward one defender inevitably creates an opportunity elsewhere. Trying to account for multiple elite players only makes things more tricky.
Fortunately for Cincinnati, right tackle Amarius Mims is hopping into the matchup following a rock-solid opener.
Pitcher called Mims his breakout player before Cincinnati's 33-27 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Bengals.com reported the third-year tackle delivered a flawless performance in pass protection.
"I'm glad we got Amarius for this one," Pitcher said.
The assignment gets considerably tougher against Anderson and Hunter.
Cincinnati's ability to keep Joe Burrow clean could be one of the defining factors Sunday as the Bengals try to open a season 2-0 for the first time since 2018.
