Ja'Marr Chase sees a former LSU wide receiver following a recognized path toward NFL stardom.
The Cincinnati Bengals star was asked which young receiver currently in the league he believes will become a superstar.
"There's a lot of young, incredible talent out there, but I'd have to go with Malik Nabers," Chase wrote to USA Today Sports in conjunction with the release of his Fabletics collection.
Their shared LSU background admittedly played a role in Chase's choice, but his reasoning went beyond school ties.
"Obviously him playing for LSU is a plus, but I respect someone who is out there hustling, showing their drive, never letting up, always wanting to be the best," Chase wrote. "That's what you need to be the best in this league."
That mentality
should sound familiar coming from Chase, whose own competitiveness has accompanied his climb into the league's top tier of receivers.
Nabers entered the NFL with similar expectations after becoming one of college football's most explosive offensive players at LSU.
Chase's endorsement solidifies the reputation Nabers has already developed among his peers.
Physical talent can create an opening for a young receiver, but Chase pointed toward the work and mentality behind it as the traits needed to take Nabers even further.
Coming from one of the standard-setters at the position, that's noteworthy praise.
