Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. might not even play in Week 3, but he doesn’t seem to mind giving the Cincinnati Bengals some bulletin-board material anyway.
Porter, embroiled in a contract standoff with the Steelers, didn’t explicitly tell reporters on Thursday if he would return against the Bengals.
But he did have some interesting comments about Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
“I feel like I have a good indication on those guys and what they like to do,” Porter said, according to Brooke Pryor of ESPN. “I never really struggled against them. It’s always been fun for me getting out there with them.”
Nothing too wild, but as we all know, pro athletes use every single little thing they can find as extra motivation.
“I never really struggled
against them.” That will certainly do for Chase and Higgins.
As Bengals fans will recall, Porter has, in fact, struggled against the Bengals wideouts in recent years, getting notably flagged during big games for Chase and/or Higgins. In one meeting last year, Chase caught 16 passes for 161 yards and a score, while Higgins added six for 96 and a score of his own.
So, a little extra motivation for Chase, Higgins and the Bengals as they look to move to 3-0 while putting a reeling Steelers team into an even deeper hole.
