After the Jacksonville Jaguars came up short in Denver, letting a second-half lead slip away, here is a look at which players received the best and worst PFF grades.
Now, before we dive into all that, I do want to mention that while PFF's grading system is certainly helpful at quantifying a player's performance, it is not the be-all and end-all when it comes to evaluations. It is one tool out of many that are out there and should be treated as such.
For some context around these grades, below is the grading scale.
- 90.0+: Elite
- 80-89.9: High quality
- 70-79.9: Good
- 60-69.9: Above average
- 50-59.9: Average
- 40-49.9: Below average
- 39.9 or less: Poor
Jaguars' 5 highest-graded players on offense
- WR Parker Washington: 82.4
- RB Bhayshul Tuten: 73.0
- TE Brenton Strange: 64.4
- QB Trevor Lawrence: 63.6
- RB Chris Rodriguez: 60.5
Washington and Tuten were the top playmakers for the Jaguars' offense. Washington totaled nearly 100 receiving yards on seven receptions, while Tuten averaged 5.0 yards per rush. Strange had three receptions for 40 yards and earned a sound
run-blocking grade of 73.9.
Lawrence, meanwhile, was 17-of-29 passing for 189 yards with an interception. He was under frequent pressure, but when kept clean, he was very good. Rodriguez had six carries for 13 yards and a pass-blocking grade of 75.0 on one attempt.
Jaguars' 5 highest-graded players on defense
- LB Ventrell Miller: 79.0
- DE Travon Walker: 75.8
- DE Dennis Gardeck: 75.6
- S Antonio Johnson: 75.4
- DT DaVon Hamilton: 71.5
Miller totaled seven tackles and allowed one reception for just seven yards. He received a very good run defense grade. Walker had a modest two pressures with a run defense grade of 70.7. Gardeck also had two pressures and allowed one reception for two yards in coverage.
Johnson was effective as a blitzer, was all over, making seven tackles, and allowed just nine yards as the primary coverage defender. Hamilton earned a run defense grade of 70.5.
Jaguars' 3 lowest-graded players overall
- LB Branson Combs: 26.4
- CB Jarrian Jones: 32.7
- DT Matt Dickerson: 41.0
Combs had a missed tackle and was credited with surrendering two receptions for 41 yards. Jones was targeted often, allowing four receptions on six targets for 66 yards with a pass breakup. Dickerson's run defense grade of 38.3 brought down his overall grade significantly.
