Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen received some recognition for his play-calling abilities from several of his counterparts.
The Athletic's Jeff Howe spent the offseason speaking with a total of 20 GMs, head coaches, coordinators, and NFL execs, asking them to vote on various categories.
One question asked by Howe was, "Who are the three best offensive play callers in the NFL not named Sean McVay or Kyle Shanahan?"
Coen earned five votes, which ranked tied for fourth among those who received votes.
It took some time last season for the Jaguars' offense to hit its stride as Coen's new scheme was being implemented. However, once that happened around the midpoint of the season, the offense really took off.
Jacksonville closed out the season
on an eight-game winning streak, and during the stretch, the offense was red-hot, ranking among the best in points per game.
In addition to that, Trevor Lawrence was one of the most productive quarterbacks in the game and finished the year as an MVP finalist.
As good as last season was, the continuity of being in the same system for a second year -- allowing Coen and the offense to dive deeper into the playbook -- can provide a jumping-off point for this unit heading into 2026.
