The Jacksonville Jaguars made two additions at cornerback on Tuesday, signing Alijah Huzzie off the Texans' practice squad, along with adding free agent Jaylon Jones.
The additions give the Jaguars needed depth at cornerback after waiving/injured Christian Braswell and while Montaric Brown continues to work through a hamstring injury that sidelined him last Sunday.
But in addition to that, there is special teams value that comes with these additions, specifically when it comes to Jones.
"Just obviously, continuing to add depth and competition there, especially Jaylon Jones, has been a really good special teams player around this league the last few years," Coen said. "Think he had 16 tackles on special teams last year."
Jones went undrafted in 2022
and has experience, having appeared in 56 games during his NFL career, which includes six starts. Huzzie went undrafted in 2025 out of North Carolina and has spent his first year-plus in the NFL with the Texans.
Both players bring versatility to the Jaguars' secondary, another reason for these signings.
"Continuing to try to add players that are diverse," Coen added, "that fit your culture, that are going to be able to help us, whether they have a hat on game day, not just maybe in one phase on special teams, being able to give you quality snaps throughout the course of the week at different positions, whether it's at corner, nickel, or at safety, and I think the two guys that we added have some of that flexibility."
Following these moves, the Jaguars cornerback room now consists of Brown, Travis Hunter, Jarrian Jones, Jourdan Lews, Jones, and Huzzie.
