The Jacksonville Jaguars have wrapped up their second day of training camp, and one particular area of interest is the pass rush. While the Jaguars had a very strong defense last season, more consistent pass rush production from the unit as a whole is needed.
The Jaguars are positioned very well at the top of the defensive end depth chart, with Josh Hines-Allen one of the more productive pass rushers in football last season. While Travon Walker has continued to ascend but dealt with injuries last season, which limited his impact.
However, he still received a four-year, $110 million extension in April, and as defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile explained in a post-camp press conference, it's because he is vital to the defense.

Campanile first pointed out that Walker's versatility keeps offenses guessing -- they can't rely on substitutions to diagnose what the defense is going to call.
"He's a special guy for us. He's an important guy for us because he enables us to do a bunch of different things without subbing different personnel groupings on the field," Campanile explained. "So we can be a lot of things, play a lot of different fronts because of Travon. And that's something that's helped us in the run game. And really, at the end of the day, if you stop the run on early downs, you have an opportunity to rush the passer. And what you're hoping for is to get him behind the sticks and not be playing 50-50 ball. He's one of those guys that enables us to pin your ears back a little bit more, because you're not playing as much 50-50 ball on second and long and third down."
He also noted that Walker has been driven to improve, and worked hard in the offseason to take that next step and continue elevating his play.
"He's the type of guy you wanna coach," he said. "He's just — that's the way he is. Whatever it is, I don't think contract, none of that stuff matters to him. He's just a driven guy, and he's a guy that wants you to be honest with him. And I think that the most important part of improvement is honesty. And he welcomes that. Some guys shy away from that, or catch feelings. He's not one of those guys. He's a total pro. He wants the truth all the time, and we're giving it to him."
Campanile concluded that Walker is the type of player he enjoys being around every day. Similarly, Hines-Allen had high praise for Walker during the press conference as well.
"He's just an overall great guy on the field," he said. "He's a brother, he treats everybody the same. He jokes, he plays, he's serious. He knows when to turn it on, when to turn it off, turn it on, turn it off. And when we step on the field, he has that mindset that he is the best in the world. And so for me, having a guy that I can rely on like that is huge. And then off the field, having a guy that I can depend on, it's just amazing to have in the locker room. He's just a great locker room guy."
Walker had 10-plus sacks and ranked in the top 25 among his position group in quarterback pressures in both 2023 and 2024, before taking a slight step back due to issues with injury. However, he has been healthy through the offseason, and so far during training camp, is indicating that he is on track for a double-digit sack season again in 2026. The team is still practicing without pads, but he would have had one "sack" already on the first day of training camp, and it's clear that the Jaguars are relying on Walker as a key part of their defensive scheme.
