The Jacksonville Jaguars dropped a back-and-forth game to the Texans following a last-second field goal by Houston.
With the clock at zero, here are our instant takeaways from the Jaguars' performance.
- The wet weather before the game certainly left the field slippery, with players on both teams struggling to find their footing at times.
- The full scope of Travis Hunter's impact was on display in this game. He had several receptions on offense, including a touchdown, and then recorded an interception on defense that wiped away a scoring opportunity for the Texans.
- Against a stingy Texans' defense, the Jaguars' run game was able to find some success, with Chris Rodriguez and Bhayshul Tuten totaling 94 yards on 23 carries.
- As we've seen this
season, Tuten is the real deal. His ability to make defenders miss continues to be impressive.
- The Texans boast a very disruptive pass rush, but the Jaguars' offensive line unit held up well, not surrendering a sack. Credit as well goes to Trevor Lawrence for operating cleanly within the timing and rhythm of the play.
- Lawrence really attacked the middle of the field against the Houston defense.
- We saw on display the wealth of pass-catching options the Jaguars have on offense, with four players totaling at least four receptions and five of those players recording a reception of 20-plus yards.
- The Jaguars' run defense, which has been excellent this season, gave up over 100 yards to the Texans at nearly 5.0 yards a pop.
- CJ Stroud and the passing game also found some success pushing the ball downfield. Houston totaled over 400 yards of offense. And when a stop was needed, the Jaguars couldn't come through.
- Penalties again weren't great, but it was improved over what it had been for Jacksonville.
- After a shaky red zone start, the Jaguars regained their efficiency after struggling inside the 20 last week as well.
- Helping the Jaguars move the ball and sustain drives was their efficient performance on third downs.
- This is becoming less of a trend and more the norm, but Brian Thomas Jr.'s role on offense was again small.
- The Jaguars pass rush didn't log any sacks and had just one QB hit.
