Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. was among the Jacksonville Jaguars' standout performers during offseason programs, and if you ask Jakobi Meyers, he's carried that momentum into training camp.
"I mean, honestly, man, he's having a great camp so far and it just built off the spring," Meyers said on Sunday. "I mean, he had one of the better springs that I've seen of a younger guy since I've been in the league. But like, if he just doing half of what he doing now, I think he would be in a good spot. Like, he's having a great camp."
Behind Thomas Jr.'s success is his improved chemistry with quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Head coach Liam Coen also noted recently his ability to make contested catches.
And while Thomas Jr.'s speed will garner the attention
of opposing defenders, specifically his ability to win downfield as a vertical threat, adding to the challenge of defending him is that he can impact each level of the field and do so with a variety of routes.
"Some of the routes BT ran yesterday," Coen said last week, "they were high, high level. Like when he can get open and run and open up his stride and now it's like, is he running by you? Is he going to run the deep out? Is he going to run the deep curl? Is he going to run the deep dagger? That puts a corner in a bind, especially when you can open up your stride like he can."
A resurgent season from Thomas Jr. won't only create more explosive plays for the Jacksonville offense, but the attention he garners can help open up opportunities for his teammates as well.
