After rehabbing during the offseason from last season's ACL injury, Travis Hunter is back on the field for training camp with theJacksonville Jaguars.
During the first practice, Hunter played 12 total snaps in the 11-on-11 periods, with eight coming at cornerback and four at wide receiver, according to ESPN's Michael DiRocco.
Hunter would force an incompletion in coverage on a deep ball from Nick Mullens that was intended for Josh Cameron, according to Jamal St. Cyr, while on offense, Hunter went up for a ball on a pass from Trevor Lawrence but could not come down with it.
On Day 2, St. Cyr notedthat Hunter hauled in two completions for Lawrence and was in coverage on a sideline pass from Mullens to Cameron that fell incomplete.
Following Thursday's
practice, defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile shared what he's seen from Hunter in the early going.
"He's getting back in the flow, back in the swing of things, and he looks good," Campanile said. "Like a lot of these guys, changed his body a little bit this offseason. The silver lining, obviously, you never want to see anybody get injured, but he put his best foot forward in the weight room, as he was recovering from a lower body injury and really built up his upper body and everything. So he just looks really physical in the team work and in the individual periods. He's done a good job."
Liam Coen mentioned recently that Hunter put on about 10 pounds of muscle during the offseason.
Although Hunter is expected to see a lot more action at cornerback this season, the Jaguars fully intend to continue utilizing him on offense as well.
When it comes to handling that workload, every second matters, as Campanile said, so he and defensive pass game coordinator Matt Araujo spend any extra time with Hunter that they can.
"He's got a lot of heavy lifting. He's splitting time, so every second matters, every second counts," Campanile said. "I think Matt Araujo has done a great job with him in that room, really just being super detailed, finding any second of the day to help him out from a fundamentals perspective and continuing to grow."
