Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers joined the Jacksonville Jaguars at last season's trade deadline. However, these four training camp practices this summer are the first time he's been able to share the field with Travis Hunter.
Upon Meyers' arrival last season, Hunter was sidelined for the year with a knee injury.
So what has Meyers seen from Hunter in the early going of training camp?
"I just like watching him play," Meyers said on Sunday. "I've been watching him, I feel like everybody been watching him. He like the country son, you know what I mean? So we all just kind of watching him grow up as a man. And I just think he a really good dude, honestly. Like he fun to be around. He always enjoy your energy. Always laughing, always smiling. So it's hard
to be upset when he in the room and it's hard to be upset when he on the field. Like so we winning when he good."
In Sunday's practice, Hunter showcased hisplaymaking abilities on both sides of the ball, generating an interception at cornerback and then two explosive plays at wide receiver.
"Wherever he wants him," Meyers said when asked where Hunter can help the receiver unit. "He that type of talent. So I think whatever the coaches ask him to do, whatever they design for him, ultimately we'll be okay because he's that caliber player. He can play inside, he can play outside, he can give you a break, he can go to defense. He probably could throw it to you if we need him to. So, who knows for real? But I'm sure whatever he put his mind to, he'll find a way to get it done and help us a lot."
According to ESPN's Michael DiRocco, Hunter has played 56 total snaps during the 11-on-11 periods across four training camp practices, with 34 coming on defense and 22 on offense.
While the expectation is for Hunter to take on a larger role defensively this season, he will continue to be a factor on offense as well.
"It's just the spring, like the jumps," Meyers said of Hunter. "Even his drops look good. I'm like, I don't know how you manage to make your drops look good, but I kind of want to take that from him. He just dynamic, man. He's just fun to watch and I feel like the game going to be in good hands if we keep getting players like that coming into the league and we take care of them. Like not put too much pressure on them and just help grow them the right way. I think the NFL will be in good hands."
