Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame traveled around the East Coast this summer, visiting numerous NFL training camps. When in Jacksonville, Jaguars rookie wide receiver Josh Cameron caught his attention.
Cameron made Verderame's list of potential breakout players for the 2026 season. Along with Verderame's own observations, input from coaches and execs went into the construction of this list.
"At times this summer, Cameron ran with the first team when Thomas and Meyers were nursing injuries and performed well," wrote Verderame. "Should Jacksonville need to reach into its depth during the season, the rookie might have his name called after an impressive camp."
Since arriving in Jacksonville during offseason programs, Cameron has made plays, often
as a downfield target on offense.
During training camp, offensive coordinator Grant Udinski noted Cameron's play style and day-to-day consistency standing out.
If the wide receiver room is healthy, Cameron's biggest contributions early on may end up coming on special teams, potentially in the return game, with the Jaguars having so much depth at the wide receiver position.
That said, Cameron's performance throughout the summer could earn him some opportunities, especially if Travis Hunter's workload continues to be heavy on defense. At times during training camp, it got to the point where keeping Cameron -- and fellow rookie CJ Williams -- off the field was no easy task.
