A bold prediction for the Jaguars and Patriots Week 3 matchup centers around quarterback Drake Maye and the success he will have against the Jacksonville secondary.
Through two games, Maye has quarterback ratings of 61.8 and 67.6, but ESPN's Seth Walder believes that the Patriots' quarterback will surpass the 80.0 mark on Sunday.
"Yes, I know he has struggled," Walder wrote. "But I'm just not going to move that far off my prior -- that Maye was arguably the best QB in football last season -- after two games, especially playing in the same offensive scheme as before. This ship will right itself."
In part, Walder's prediction is based on the belief that Maye can regain last season's form. However, the Jaguars' pass defense has also been susceptible
as well through two games.
Both Cleveland and Denver have found success pushing the ball downfield and generating explosive plays. The Jaguars will enter this game allowing 8.9 yards per pass attempt, which ranks 31st in the NFL.
Not helping the secondary is the Jacksonville pass rush, which has struggled to drum up consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
The Jaguars' ability to limit chunk plays through the air will be a critical element to this week's game.
