Trade speculation around WR Brian Thomas Jr. continues to take place with the deadline approaching. However, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Jacksonville Jaguars still have "not shown a willingness" to move on from the talented wideout.
Outside questions about Thomas' future with the Jaguars have been swirling since last year's trade deadline, after he struggled to find his footing in Liam Coen's offense.
That noise has only ramped up in recent weeks, with Thomas' role decreasing as the season has progressed. This includes playing just 15 snaps in Week 6 and not having any receptions between Weeks 5 and 6.
But even so, the Jaguars have outwardly maintained their confidence in Thomas. We then saw him catch a touchdown pass against the Colts,
while also playing more snaps.
Jacksonville's unwillingness up to this point to engage in trade conversations around Thomas stems from where this team currently stands at 5-2 on the season.
"As was pointed out to me, the Jaguars have a window to win big and are in the business of adding, not subtracting," Fowler wrote. "And Thomas still has value as a field-stretching outside receiver."
That said, Fowler adds that teams remain interested in Thomas and believe the Jaguars will eventually move on from him.
"Several teams are interested (Chiefs and Steelers are in the receiver market) and are confident Jacksonville will eventually move him," Fowler wrote. "But the Jaguars have not shown a willingness to do so yet."
Fowler says this situation should "crystallize" after the Jaguars' Thursday night matchup with the Ravens. The trade deadline is Nov. 10.
