An at-times recurring issue for theJacksonville Jaguars last season was penalties.
Particularly during training camp and through the first half of the season, this was a fairly big issue.
As the season progressed, Jacksonville improved in this area, but the Jaguars still finished 2025 as one of the most penalized teams in the NFL, totaling 130 on the year, the second-most in football.
Through three training camp practices, John Shipleyof Jaguars on SI notes that penalties haven't been as big of a problem as they were last summer, but there is still work to be done, with Friday's practice being the most-heavily penalized day for Jacksonville.
"Penalties have popped up at a few different times" early on, Shipley wrote. He continued, "Wide receiver
Josh Cameron was hit with a false start on Friday, multiple cornerbacks drew DPI flags, and there was an offsides penalty on the starting defense during end-of-game drills at the end of practice."
On offense and special teams, penalties can wipe out big plays and put the offense either behind the sticks or swing the field position battle. On defense, they can extend drives, keeping the opponent on the field.
Winning in the NFL isn't easy. But doing so while committing a littany of penalties makes the already difficult task more challenging.
Three days in, there is no reason to hit the panic button -- and as Shipley said, the Jaguars are improved from last year -- but as training camp and the preseason unfold, this will be worth monitoring.
