There was not much of a question about who was going to win this game after the Jacksonville Jaguars went into halftime with a 24-0 lead over the Cleveland Browns. They then won the game with a final score of 34-10.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence had a nearly perfect game, going 18 of 23 for 245 yards and four touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 150.6. His touchdowns went to four different players - Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers, Brenton Strange, and Josh Cameron. The defense also had a strong day with two takeaways, five sacks, six tackles for loss, and two pass deflections.
Here is a look at the good, bad, and ugly from the Jaguars’ season-opening victory against the Cleveland Browns:
The Good
Takeaways: There was a lot of good in this game for the
Jaguars. Their offense was on fire, the defense stifled the Browns and there were no crucial mistakes. Jacksonville never turned the ball over and only had four penalties for 25 yards. If this game is any indicator, the Jaguars seem well on their way to defending their AFC South title and going back to the playoffs.
Trevor Lawrence: You could not ask for much more out of your quarterback than Lawrence’s performance. Despite being a finalist for the MVP, Lawrence has been largely underappreciated around the NFL. Perhaps he changed that today with four touchdowns and only five incompletions and a nearly perfect quarterback rating. Jacksonville can beat any opponent as long as Lawrence plays like this all season.
Ventrell Miller: After playing on only 20 percent of the Jaguars’ defensive snaps last season, linebacker Ventrell Miller led Jacksonville in total tackles (10), solo tackles (seven) and tackles for loss (two). He also had a sack in this game, which was one of five by the Jaguars’ defense in this game. He may not be the first person you think of as a top player in this game, but he is someone Jaguars fans are going to get to know throughout this season.
Parker Washington: After finishing last season red hot, Washington had a strong start to the 2026 season. He hauled in five receptions for 83 yards with a touchdown.
The Bad
Ball security: There was only one fumble, and it was recovered by the offense, but Brian Thomas still lost the fumble. That is something that needs to be worked on as the season continues because against a team with more defensive firepower, that fumble could have been costly.
The Ugly
Punt return game: In all fairness, it is difficult to find things that were ugly for the Jaguars in this game. However, on Parker Washington’s lone punt return of the game, he had a -5 yard return. This is not a fair sample size of what Washington can do in the punt return game, but that should improve as the season goes on.
