The Jacksonville Jaguars offense was on fire in its Week 1 debut, steamrolling over the Cleveland Browns for a 34-10 win. Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence was red-hot, finishing 18/23 for 245 yards and four touchdowns, and a passer rating of 150.6.
Lawrence played like an MVP, but he also had numerous weapons to take advantage of in his wide receiver room. Analysts noted throughout the offseason that Jacksonville has one of the best wide receiver rooms in the NFL, and Parker Washington said their performance Sunday proves just how good that unit, and the rest of the offense, is.
"That's how we came out here," he said. "We attacked it this offseason. We have some young guys that's ready to roll, and the tight end room is great, the receiver room is great.
Running back, I mean, the whole offense is special, and like I said, we want to continue to showcase that, continue to get better, and continue to have some fun. We just want to continue to grow off of what we did last year."
Head coach Liam Coen has insinuated throughout the offseason that he favors a committee-style approach, rather than focusing on one or two star players, and that was on full display against the Browns.
Washington led the team in receiving, with five catches for 83 yards and a touchdown, but Lawrence had plenty of targets on display. Jakobi Meyers and rookie Josh Cameron both scored touchdowns, while Brian Thomas Jr. and Brenton Strange made some nice catches as well. Even running back Bhayhsul Tuten had a catch for 22 receiving yards by the end of the game.
As Washington said, it seems that Coen has been able to build something special with this offense, which will hopefully continue as the team takes on tougher defenses.
