Travis Hunter didn't play any offensive snaps in theJacksonville Jaguars' Week 4 win over the Bengals. So why was that the case?
In short, as Liam Coen explained on Sunday, the injuries that the Jaguars were dealing with at cornerback was the primary reason why.
Jacksonville entered Sunday's game without Montaric Brown (hamstring) and Christian Braswell (knee). The Jaguars did elevate Jabbar Muhammad from the practice squad to bolster the depth, but even so, that only left Jacksonville with four healthy cornerbacks.
Knowing that Hunter was going to play every defensive snap, the Jaguars couldn't risk an injury taking place on offense.
"We knew with Buster being down and Braswell being down he was going to play every single snap of the game," Coen
said. "Had some things for him on offense, but we just didn't feel like putting him out there -- 'oh man, he gets hurt on offense, we're in a real bad spot.' So didn't want to put ourselves at risk there and I was very proud of the way Travis played defensively today."
Hunter went on to have a terrific performance, allowing four receptions on seven targets for just 26 total yards. He also had two pass breakups and a passer rating of 58.2 when targeted.
Through the first three games of the season, Hunter has played 16 offensive snaps. The Jaguars still view Hunter as a two-way player, but what his playing time looks like on a weekly basis is determined by what puts the Jaguars in the best position to win.
"(Hunter) cares about winning," Coen said last week. "That's what he cares about. Like, all the other stuff, the reps, where we picked him. We care about winning, and that's it."
