Jacksonville Jaguars'two-way player Travis Hunter came away with his first career interception in the team's Week 3 win over the New England Patriots, and the play came at a critical point in the game.
With the Jaguars up 14-3 just before halftime, the Patriots were threatening to score.
With New England facing a 3rd-and-goal from the Jaguars' two-yard line, quarterback Drake Maye took the snap and rolled to his right. With pressure closing in, he threw to the back of the end zone, where Hunter was tight in coverage, and made a play on the ball, coming away with the interception.
"Huge play," Liam Coen said afterward. "Critical moment. Critical situation. Down low-red-zone, right before the half, that's a huge momentum swing play. "ravis to make
the play, get the little bit of the monkey off his back a little bit in some ways to go out there and make a huge play."
Hunter would again spend themajority of his snapsat cornerback. According to a report from Cameron Wolfe of the NFL Network, the Jaguars are being mindful of Hunter's workload and easing him in, as he comes back from last season's injury. The plan, per Wolfe, is for Hunter's rep count on both offense and defense to increase as the season progresses.
However, the early emphasis on defense also speaks to the impact that the Jaguars believe Hunter can have at the cornerback position, where he brings impressive ball skills and instincts to the secondary.
