The Jacksonville Jaguars are receiving no shortage of hype after defeating the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4, and the 2026 season so far is proving that the Jaguars' success last year was legitimate.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence in particular has been solid to start the year, which quieted the questions from analysts about whether his growth in 2025 was real or not.
Lawrence has had a roller coaster career and has struggled with consistency. He has also dealt with constant coaching turnover, and it wasn't until head coach Liam Coen was hired in 2025 that he finally began to look like the generational talent he was lauded as before being drafted into the NFL.
And that's exactly why Russell Wilson believes Coen is a shoo-in for Coach of the Year.

"We love Trevor Lawrence because of how he's playing right now, and his confidence that Liam Coen has him playing," Wilson said. "I think Liam Coen has done a tremendous job and is arguably one of those guys that's definitely going to be up for coach of the year, because he's got his quarterback playing with confidence. He's ripping the ball, putting his foot in the ground. We talked about it last week, the week before; he's playing just with a tremendous confidence going."
Coen was lauded for a genius play call in Week 4, in which he read the Bengals defense perfectly and used it to his advantage. Last season, Coen was nominated for NFL Coach of the Year, and narrowly lost, coming in second place with just three votes behind the New England Patriots' Mike Vrabel. His 2025 success was literally historic, as he is the only first-time head coach to take a team with four or fewer wins and turn it into one with 12 or more wins.
His pairing with Lawrence has also been ranked among the best head coach-quarterback duos in the league. Lawrence steadily improved in 2025 as he grew more comfortable in Coen's offense, and all signs point to another strong year from the veteran QB in 2026.
The Jaguars are currently 3-1, and if the season continues like this, Coen might not end up snubbed in the coach of the year voting.
