The Jacksonville Jaguars' run defense remains very stingy, and at the center of that success is defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton.
Last season, the Jaguars allowed the fewest rushing yards per game in the NFL. Through three games this season, the Jaguars rank eighth in that same category and seventh in yards per rush allowed.
According to CBS Sports' Pete Prisco, the Jaguars haven't allowed a running back to rush for over 75 yards in the team's last 20 games.
Strong run defense is a collective defensive effort, but leading the charge is Hamilton. In the middle of the Jaguars' defensive front, Hamilton has been a force in the run game, ranking third among all defensive tackles inPFF's run-stop rate metric. He's tied for third in tackles in the run game as well.
Head coach Liam Coen also mentioned recently that Hamilton is flashing in the passing game, recording three pressures and a sack in the first three games.
Hamilton's presence may not always show up on the stat sheet, but his impact is clearly felt. His ability to take on blocks, clog running lanes, and eat up space makes running the ball between the tackles difficult for opponents, not to mention that he helps create opportunities for his teammates.
So as Prisco said, "it’s time (Hamilton) gets some attention for how good he is inside."
