The Jacksonville Jaguars continue to roll as they defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 22-17 to get their third win of the season and maintain solo possession of first place in the AFC South after the first four weeks.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw for 227 passing yards and a touchdown, while completing over 78 percent of his passes. His leading receiver was tight end Brenton Strange, who had seven receptions for 95 yards; he was the only player on the Jaguars’ roster with at least four receptions. The run game was decent as Bhayshul Tuten had 4.3 yards per attempt and 73 total rushing yards.
Here is a look at the good, bad, and ugly from the Jaguars’ third win of the year against the Cincinnati Bengals:
The Good
Travis Hunter's impact: Hunter played all
76 defensive snaps at cornerback and was excellent. According toPFF's early tracking data, Hunter was targeted six times, but allowed just three receptions for a grand total of 21 yards. He also forced two pass breakups.
More interceptions: The highlight for this defense was their two interceptions against Burrow. Both of them completely changed the momentum of the game. One led to a touchdown for the Jacksonville offense, and another took points off the board with the Bengals in the red zone.
Run Defense: Chase Brown with the Bengals is a talented running back, but he only averaged 1.1 yards per carry in this game. As a whole, Cincinnati’s run game only had 23 rushing yards and 1.5 yards per carry. With the run game not working, it made the Bengals' offense one-dimensional and pass-heavy.
The Bad
A lot of passing yards surrendered: In part, this is a product of facing a talented quarterback and a playmaking wideout in Tee Higgins, not to mention that the Bengals threw the ball 54 times. However, surrendering 428 passing yards isn't great either. The Jaguars also surrendered three plays of at least 26 yards, while Higgins had 157 receiving yards on his own.
The Ugly
Penalties: The Jaguars had only 15 total penalties in the first three games combined and they nearly matched that total in Cincinnati, with 13 total penalties for 125 yards. The Jaguars are fortunate this did not cost them the game, as a few wiped away touchdowns and an interception.
