The Jacksonville Jaguars activating Cole Van Lanen off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list benefits the offense in a number of ways.
First, and most obvious, is the boost he gives the offensive line with his play. While there will likely be a ramp-up period for Van Lanen with him missing so much time, once he's a full go, the Jaguars
are getting a good player at a key position back on the field.Van Lanen showcased last season his impressive versatility, but once settling at left tackle during the final five games of the season, he didn't surrender any sacks at left tackle, and he ranked 21st in PFF's run-blocking grade during that span.
Impact of Cole Van Lanen's return to Jaguars
That said, Van Lanen's eventual return to 11-on-11 work also gives the Jaguars a lot more flexibility
up front as they look to construct the best possible starting five configuration.
One option is that Van Lanen could go back to left tackle, allowing Anton Harrison to move back to right tackle.
Or, if Van Lanen takes over at right tackle, Walker Little could now move inside to right guard, adding to the competition for that role in Patrick Mekari's absence.
The return of Van Lanen, along with the Jaguars recently acquiring Daniel Faalele as quickly given them numerous options up front.
