The Jacksonville Jaguars open up the preseason on Saturday on the road, taking on the New Orleans Saints. On Thursday, the two teams will take part in a joint practice.
Ahead of this week's game, the Jaguars have released their unofficial depth chart. While nothing here is set in stone, it does perhaps provide us with some insights into where key positional battles stand.
Here are seven takeaways from it.
Anton Harrison at left tackle
Unlike last year, when Harrison took some left tackle snaps in training camp, this time around, it seems to be much more than some positional cross-training taking place. Not knowing when Cole Van Lanen will return, Harrison is currently the likely Week 1 starter at this position.
Tight end depth
As expected, Brenton Strange and Nate Boerkircher are at the top
of the depth chart, but rookie Tanner Koziol is the third option, ahead of veterans Quintin Morris and Hunter Long. Also of note, Morris is listed ahead of Long. The two are likely competing for just one roster spot.
Defensive tackle rotation
Matt Dickerson is a roster bubble player, but he's listed ahead of Ruke Orhorhoro on the depth chart, perhaps telling us that he is positioned well to make the team.
Linebacker
Next to Foye Oluokun, the Jaguars have it listed as Ventrell Miller "or" Branson Combs. The two are competing for that starting role and the competition appears to be quite close.
Starting running back
Just like at linebacker, the Jaguars have the RB1 role listed as Bhayshul Tuten "or" Chris Rodriguez. But as we've stated before, regardless of who holds that title, both will see ample playing time this season.
Where's Travis Hunter?
At both wide receiver and cornerback, Hunter is listed where you'd expect him to be. He is the fourth option at wide receiver, behind Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, and Parker Washington. While at cornerback, he is listed as a starter with Jourdan Lewis and Montaric Brown.
Defensive end rotation
Playing time is up for grabs behind Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker, and the third and fourth spots in this rotation belong to BJ Green and Danny Striggow over rookies Wesley Williams and Zach Durfee.
