Following the conclusion of the preseason for the Jacksonville Jaguars, which players received the highest overall grades fromPro Football Focus, and which received the lowest?
Let's take a look, but first I do want to mention that while PFF's grading system is certainly helpful at quantifying a player's performance, it is not the be-all and end-all when it comes to evaluations. It is one tool out of many that are out there and should be treated as such.
For some context around these grades, below is the grading scale.
- 90.0+: Elite
- 80-89.9: High quality
- 70-79.9: Good
- 60-69.9: Above average
- 50-59.9: Average
- 40-49.9: Below average
- 39.9 or less: Poor
Jaguars' 3 highest-graded players on offense
- WR Michael Wortham: 76.1
- WR Chander Brayboy: 75.2
- OL Emmanuel Pregnon: 74.0
Wortham and Brayboy were both steady targets, taking advantage of the opportunities that came their way. Wortham caught 7-of-8 passes for 97 yards, and Brayboy caught 4-of-5 passes for 42 yards. Both also graded out well as run-blockers,
an important aspect of playing wide receiver in Liam Coen's offense.
Pregnon's surge to potentially starting Week 1 at left guard for the Jaguars really began during the preseason. He appeared in only one game, where he gave up one pressure over 18 pass-blocking snaps. Pregnon also had a run-blocking grade of 70.0.
Jaguars 3 highest-graded players on defense
- LB Amari Burney: 90.5
- S Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig: 86.6
- DE Danny Striggow: 75.6
Burney did a big of everything. He logged three quarterback pressures and had five run stops. He also didn't allow any receptions on two targets, while recording a pass breakup.
Silmon-Craig's coverage grade of 82.3 gave his overall grade a big boost. He allowed two receptions on four targets for a modest 15 yards, along with forcing a pass breakup.
Striggow recorded a sack, three tackles in the run game, and earned a run defense grade of 67.6. He played just 36 total snaps.
Jaguars 3 lowest-graded players overall
- DT Keivie Rose: 30.1
- LB Yasir Abdullah: 38.1
- DT TJ Bollers: 42.1
Over 40 pass rush snaps, Rose did not record a pressure. He also missed one of his four tackle attempts, contributing to a run defense grade of 29.2.
Abdullah found success as a blitzer, but his tackling and coverage grades brought down his overall grade. He missed two of his five tackle attempts, while allowing three receptions on four targets for 35 yards with no ball production.
Bollers recorded three pressures and was in on two sacks, but his run defense grade of 30.0 hurt his overall grade.
