Training camp is almost here for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The rookies and quarterbacks report on July 25, the veterans on July 28, and the first practice is July 29.
Without question, the Jaguars are coming off a successful first season under head coach Liam Coen. But how does this team reach new heights in Year 2?
Earlier this offseason, Coen mentioned the importance of Year 1 for setting the tone and establishing a strong foundation. But Year 2? That's the most important season. In Coen's words, there have been a lot of one-hit wonders.
So to ensure that the Jaguars don't fall into that category and the team continues searching for its edge, Coen's message heading into the new season has a simple, yet very important theme -- it's all about earning
respect. And that is accomplished by winning.
"That's going to be a huge message to our entire team, is the word that you just used, is respect," Coen said recently on the 'Schrager Hour.' "If we want respect, we respect each other in this building, we know we have here. Not sure it's always on the outside, which is fine. But if you want respect in this league, you got to go earn it. You got to go take it."
Coen continued, "And what is respect? Well, it's consistent winning, putting together a product and an organization and a team that is consistent. It's the truest measure of performance is consistency. And to earn that respect and take that respect as a player, as a coach, from your peers. I mean, that's next to winning a Super Bowl. That's what you want. You want respect from your locker room, your respect from your peers, your family, the people around you, money, fame, all that stuff's great. It comes with it, but we're hunting up respect. And that's something that we have to go earn and take on a day-to-day basis."

Outside of bringing in a new draft class, the Jaguars' roster this year compared to last is largely the same. Internal development will be critical when it comes to this team taking a step forward in 2026.
Facilitating that potential Year 2 leap under Coen is the continuity of being in the same offensive and defensive schemes for a second offseason. Rather than learning new systems, the team is able to build upon what's already been established.
