And so it begins. Ahead of roster cutdown day on Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguarshave reportedly released their first player.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the team is waiving linebacker Amari Burney.

Burney was a late addition to the Jaguars' training camp roster, joining the team on Aug. 11 to help bolster the linebacker position, a unit that was navigating injuries.

The Jaguars are waiving LB Amari Burney, per source. Former sixth-round pick had a sack last night vs Cincinnati.

Burney appeared in all three preseason games for the Jaguars, playing 81 defensive snaps. He logged three quarterback pressures, a sack, and made 10 total tackles. He also recorded a pass breakup, according to PFF.

Burney, 26, was a sixth-round pick by Las Vegas in

the 2023 NFL draft. He appeared in seven games as a rookie and then in 17 games during the 2024 season. He did not see the field in 2025 after spending part of that offseason with Tennessee.

He has played a modest 190 defensive snaps over his career, but has been a core special teams contributor, which includes playing 383 snaps across five of the six different phases during the 2024 season.
