Just as the Chiefs did in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos, can the Jacksonville Jaguars' run game find success in this week's matchup?
As a team, Kansas City averaged a whopping 5.8 yards per rush in Monday's win. Leading the way was Kenneth Walker, who totaled 173 yards on just 23 carries. This included a run of 60 yards.
In a one-game sample size, it's difficult to know if this is a true weakness for the Broncos or just a bad day at the office. For what it's worth, the Denver defense ranked sixth in yards per rush allowed last season. Walker is also one of the better backs in football.
That said, after the success that the Chiefs had, one would think that Liam Coen is zeroing in on the Denver
run game as he preps for the Week 2 matchup.
Consistently moving the ball on the ground can do wonders for an offense. Beyond the production that the backs are able to tally, keeping the offense ahead of the sticks opens up the playbook for Coen and the pass game for Trevor Lawrence. An offense becomes very difficult to defend when regularly in short down-and-distance situations.
An improved run game was a must this season for the Jaguars, and through one week, the early results are promising. Bhayshul Tuten had a productive game against Cleveland behind the Jacksonville offensive line unit. The Jaguars usage of multiple tight end sets also provided added run game help.
"We want to set a mentality with the way we are going to run the ball regardless of the scheme," offensive coordinator Grant Udinski said on Thursday.
If the run game can get rolling during Sunday's game, an already potent Jaguars' offense will become even more difficult to stop.
