The Jacksonville Jaguars' offense is off to a strong start this season. So what's been the secret to their success?
Jacksonville will enter Week 5 ranked 12th in points per game, finding success both on the ground and through the air.
To answer the above question, there is no one answer. A lot goes into producing at a high level on offense. That said, a key factor has been the Jaguars
' third-down offense.According to ESPN's Michael DiRocco, the Jaguars rank third in third-down success rate this season. The offense has been particularly good on third-and-short situations, converting 10-of-13 chances.
Being a good third-down offense starts with what takes place on first and second down. The Jaguars' ability to steadily pick up positive gains in those
situations keeps the offense ahead of the sticks and in favorable down-and-distance situations.
Then, to state the obvious, converting on third down means the offense stays on the field, which can lead to more scoring opportunities.
