For the fourth time this season, the Jacksonville Jaguars won by at least three possessions in their 33-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence had another strong performance, going 16 of 26 for 242 yards with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Parker Washington just before the end of the first half. Lawrence spread the ball around, completing a pass to eight different players. Jakobi Meyers finished the night as Jacksonville’s leading receiver with four receptions for 65 yards.
Here is a look at the good, bad, and ugly from the Jaguars’ first Thursday Night Football win since October of 2023.
The Good
Penalties: There were a lot of things that went right for the Jaguars in their win against the Ravens, but
their lack of penalties in this game was certainly one of them. Jacksonville’s greatest weakness through the first seven games of the season was their tendency to commit penalties. However, for the first time since Week 2, the Jaguars only committed four penalties. This is especially noteworthy given they just had eight penalties last week against the Indianapolis Colts. If Jacksonville can keep limiting their penalties, they would probably be the most well-rounded team in the NFL.
Takeaways: Jacksonville’s defense was going after the ball all night long against the Ravens, and for the second game in a row, they had three takeaways. All of them were in the second half, starting with an interception on Baltimore’s opening drive of the third quarter. That set up a field goal by Cam Little. They had another pick in the fourth quarter, which set up another field goal. Their final takeaway came on special teams with a forced fumble. If the play had been allowed to continue, Jalen McLeod may have had his first NFL touchdown. At least Jacksonville’s offense was able to get a touchdown eight plays later.
Cam Little: A lot was asked of Cam Little in this game. He attempted four field goals and three extra points and made all seven kicks. It tied his career record for most field goal attempts. With 14 field goals made this season, he could potentially break Jacksonville’s franchise record for most field goals in a season. He already broke the franchise record for most extra points made in a season last year and could break that record again this season with how explosive Jacksonville’s offense has been.
The Bad
Travis Hunter fumble: For the first time in his NFL career, Travis Hunter lost a fumble. It was probably the only blemish on Jacksonville’s otherwise nearly perfect night. Ultimately, it did not matter much because the Ravens were not able to capitalize on the turnover. But given the weather and Hunter’s history of protecting the football, it is unlikely this is a serious concern.
Run game: Baltimore came into this game with a mediocre run defense. However, they were able to hold Jacksonville’s offense, which averages 122.9 rushing yards per game, to just 77 yards and 2.6 yards per carry. Their leading rusher was Ameer Abdullah, who had 30 rushing yards. Bhayshul Tuten was not at 100 percent going into this game, which probably contributed to the lack of rushing yards. Luckily, with Jacksonville’s mini-bye, he should be in better shape for the Jaguars’ game against the Tennessee Titans next week.
The Ugly
This seems like a recurring theme this year. Jacksonville won in a blowout. There are things to clean up, but nothing that could be construed as ugly for the Jaguars.
