The Jacksonville Jaguars destroyed their opponent for the second week in a row, defeating the Baltimore Ravens 33-10 in Week 9 on Thursday Night Football. It was an especially notable win considering the Jaguars had a short week with just a few days to prepare.
In his post-game speech to the team, head coach Liam Coen had high praise for Jacksonville and how the players prepared for the game.
"I asked you guys this week to be great teammates, to be mentally and physically tough," he began. "Great job guys, started fast, took the ball, big time drive to go up and then man, you guys just kept — defense, kept holding them, holding them. First half, great job jumping up on somebody, but at the end of the day guys, win is a win and it’s about the process
that you guys had throughout the week led us to this point."

The Jaguars not only had just four days to prepare, but the circumstances were unusual; Jacksonville lost DaVon Hamilton and Eric Murray, who both had huge roles on defense, for the season, and there was a lot of uncertainty as to what Baltimore would present going into the game.
Both Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley were injured in Week 8, leaving undrafted rookie QB Joe Fagnano to lead the Ravens in his first-ever NFL start. While an untested quarterback would seem to be an easy target, the Ravens still have Derrick Henry, one of the best running backs in the league, to help power the offense.
Jacksonville rose above it all, and Coen was impressed by how well they prepared.
"I promise you, the way you guys prepared, it was the best short week I’ve ever been a part of," he said. "Hands down, not even close, and so, can’t tell you guys how much I appreciate the way you guys worked this week. Turnovers, you guys did so many good things but man, I’m extremely proud of your process this week. I’m extremely proud of that, and I appreciate you, I love you."
Trevor Lawrence threw for 242 yards and a touchdown, while the defense forced three turnovers and held Baltimore to 10 points, despite the absence of Hamilton and Murray. The Jaguars are now 6-2 and have widened their lead over the AFC South, as well as risen to third in the current AFC standings at the very least.
But the significance of Coen's speech may extend beyond Thursday's results.
Action Sports Jax sports director Brent Martineau, who has covered the Jaguars for two decades, suggested that the coach's comments reflect the development of a player-led culture within the organization.
"Every coach wants a player-led team," Martineau wrote, adding that this Jaguars team appears closer to achieving that goal than any he can recall during his time covering the franchise. While he acknowledged that it's difficult to determine how much of a team's culture is truly driven by its players from outside the locker room, he said Coen's comments suggest Jacksonville is approaching that point. Coen has already been receiving buzz about being named Coach of the Year, and Martineau's take can only add to the argument that Jacksonville's head coach is the best in the league.
