A very positive development for theJacksonville Jaguars' offense has been taking place in recent training camp practices.
The running back position continues to pop.
And John Shipley of Jaguars on SI noted after Sunday's practice that this is becoming the norm for this unit.
"If it feels like we are saying the Jaguars' running backs are standing out quite a bit lately, it is because the position group simply keeps making plays," Shipley wrote. "Sunday was no different, with multiple players in the room standing out over the course of practice."
Leading the way has been the combination of Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez. Tuten brings speed and elusiveness to the backfield, while Rodriguez adds a physical presence.
The common denominator between
the two is that both are difficult to bring down. Not every play is going to be a home run, but a back's ability to turn what might only be a 1 to 2-yard gain into a 5 or 6-yard gain is what can keep drives alive and the offense out of long down-and-distance situations.
It's not always flashy, but it's important to an offense's overall success.
As good as the Jaguars' offense was down the stretch last season, this unit struggled to produce consistently on the ground. As we look for ways for the offense to elevate in 2026, more steady production in the run game can go a long way in accomplishing that.
Consistent run game production keeps the offense ahead of the sticks, which then opens up the playbook for Liam Coen and can create opportunities in the passing game.
The success of Tuten and Rodriguez in training camp also speaks to the play of the offensive line unit as well.
