With training camp for the Jacksonville Jaguars getting closer, which players should be on our radars as these practices and preseason games unfold?
As part of our training camp preview, we'll be highlighting one player from each position group to keep your eyes on. In some instances, it may be one of the Jaguars' top players that we'll be watching closely, or it could be a player fighting for playing time or a roster spot.
Up next are the safeties.
Jaguars safety to watch during training camp: Antonio Johnson
Johnson put together a breakout season in 2025. Although he wasn't one of the starters on paper, keeping him off the field became a very difficult task so as the season unfolded, Johnson earned more playing time.
He graded out well as a run defender by PFF's metrics, held pass catchers to under 10 yards
per reception this season, and came away with five interceptions and three pass breakups.
But beyond the box score, Johnson brings a very versatile presence to the Jaguars' secondary. Last season, Johnson played 206 snaps last season lined up in the box, 306 at deep safety, 98 from the slot, and 29 along the defensive line, per PFF.
This provides defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile with ample flexibility as he builds out game plans. That versatility allows Campanile to move Johnson around often, throwing different looks at opposing offenses, in a way, adding a level of unpredictability to the defense.
That ability also can create opportunities for others because of the variety of hats Johnson is capable of wearing.
Once training camp begins, with Johnson now in a starting role, it will be interesting to see where Campanile has him lining up.
Johnson is entering the final year of his rookie deal and will be a free agent in 2027.
