Five games into the 2026 NFL season, ESPN's Bill Barnwell is revisiting his preseason bold predictions for each team, including theJacksonville Jaguars.
Barnwell's original prediction centered on cornerback Montaric Brown taking a step back this season. After he allowed only 1.1 yards per coverage snap in 2025, Barnwell anticipated a regression in that regard.
So far, he's on target to be correct.
"Considering Brown is at 3.8 yards allowed per coverage snap, we're well on our way," Barnwell wrote. "The idea for this prediction was that Brown's strong 2025 campaign was fueled by on-ball results that tend not to be stable from year to year and that he would regress in 2026. So far, that looks right."
Brown missed all of Week 4 and most of Week 5 with
a hamstring injury. Before that, he was rotating at the outside cornerback position with Travis Hunter and Jarrian Jones.
Through three-plus games, Brown has allowed 10 completions on 15 targets (66.7%) and has given up 250 yards, per PFF. He has one pass breakup as well.
Last season, Brown orchestrated a breakout season, allowing a completion rate of just 54% with nine pass breakups and two interceptions.
