The thought this offseason was that the Jacksonville Jaguars would take a committee approach at the running back position, with Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez having relatively equal opportunities.
However, through two weeks, that hasn't been the case. Tuten has shouldered that workload out of the backfield, and more opportunities should be coming his way.
As ESPN's Michael DiRocco noted recently, Tuten has 28 carries after two games, while Chris Rodriguez has only 12. Tuten has also been the more efficient back, and it's not particularly close, averaging 4.7 yards per rush compared to Rodriguez's 3.0 yards per attempt.
Tuten has also remained effective while operating behind inconsistent offensive line play. But playing a key role in Tuten's
early-season success is his ability to make defenders miss. His 11 missed tackles forced are tied for the third-most in football, according to PFF.
As Liam Coen has said before, what separates running backs is their ability to consistently generate more yards than what is available.
While Rodriguez will continue to be a factor on offense, Tuten's play should earn him even more opportunities moving forward. We didn't know if the Jaguars would have a true RB1 this season, but Tuten is showing that he's ready for that title.
