After a last-second win a week ago, the Jacksonville Jaguars found themselves on the other side of that outcome this time around against the Houston Texans. A field goal at the buzzer gave Houston the Week 6 win.
With the dust now having settled on Sunday's game, let's take a look back at the Jaguars' performance with what we learned.
Travis Hunter's high-impact day
One would guess that the performance we saw from Travis Hunter in this game was what the Jaguars envisioned when trading up to draft him at No. 2 overall last year.
Trailing by 10 points in the fourth quarter, Trevor Lawrence connected with Hunter for a 26-yard gain that put the Jaguars' offense at the Texans' 30-yard line. The drive was then capped off with a seven-yard touchdown pass to Hunter.
On the very next Texans'
possession, with Houston looking to make it a two-score game again, Hunter undercut the route and picked off CJ Stroud's pass in the end zone. The Jaguars then tied the game late with a field goal.
Unfortunately, this outing came in a loss, but it was our first real glimpse of the two-way impact Hunter can have.
Jaguars' defense falters vs. Texans
Jacksonville entered this game with one of the stingiest defenses in football. However, Anthony Campanile's unit had trouble slowing Houston.
Despite being the best run defense in football, the Jaguars gave up 114 rushing yards, surrendering 4.6 yards per carry. The pass defense again gave up several explosive plays, with Stroud averaging 9.2 yards per pass attempt, Jaylin Noel averaging 26.8 yards per catch, and Nico Collins averaging 24.7 yards per reception. Two other Houston players had catches of at least 16 yards.
And in the final minute, the Jaguars' defense couldn't keep Houston out of field goal range for the game-winner. The Texans would produce over 400 yards of offense at a hefty 7.2 yards per play.
The Jaguars still lead the AFC South, but ...
Even with the loss, the Jaguars are still at the top of the AFC South, but they missed out on an opportunity to really put the Texans away. On the NFL Network broadcast, they said that had the Jaguars won and dropped the Texans to 1-5, Jacksonville would have had over a 90% chance of winning the division.
But now, at 2-4, the Texans kept the 4-2 Jaguars in sight, while if the Colts' win, they will only be one game behind Jacksonville in the win column.
