The Jacksonville Jaguars' offensive line unit took its lumps during Tuesday's joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, specifically in pass protection.
John Shipleyof Jaguars on SI put together his good and not-so-good from the practice, and in the latter category was the offensive line's play in pass pro.
Shipley noted that the Bucs' defensive front was generating pressure from "a few different spots." In a separate article, Shipley noted that Reuben Bain Jr. found his share of success against the Jaguars' tackles not named Anton Harrison.
From the Jaguars' perspective, hopefully this was just a down day against a stout Bucs' pass rush and not a sign of what's to come this season.
Jacksonville has been getting healthier up front and potentially
had their Week 1 offensive line configuration on the field. This unit consisted of Harrison at left tackle, followed by Emmanuel Pregnon, Robert Hainsey, Ezra Cleveland, and Walker Little, according to Shipley.
Once Cole Van Lanen returns to 11-on-11 work, he will take over at right tackle, which gives the Jaguars added flexibility at right guard.
The name of the game is keeping the quarterback clean. When Lawrence operated in a clean pocket last season, he completed 65% of his passes at 7.4 yards per attempt. But when facing pressure, his completion rate dropped to 51% and his yards per attempt to 6.6, per PFF.
It's not time to hit the panic button by any means when it comes to the Jaguars' offensive line play, but with all the movement that's taken place up front this summer, the play of this unit will be worth watching early on.
