Adding to the defensive tackle position may have very well been on the Jacksonville Jaguars radar prior to Week 8. But now it very likely is after Sunday's game against Indianapolis.
While the Jaguars won 42-7, defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton was carted off with a knee injury. At this time, the specifics of the injury have not been reported.
"He's out there laying down and he's reassuring me," Liam Coen said of Hamilton after the game. "That's who he is. He has a smile on his face, actually. He trusts God. He trusts himself. He trusts life. He's just one of those types of people. It's tough to see that, obviously. Really tough. We have to evaluate what it truly is."
Hamilton plays a vital role in the Jaguars' stingy run defense. Even on plays where
he doesn't show up on the stat sheet, his ability to eat up space and take on blocks frees up other defenders to make plays.
Without Hamilton, the Jaguars will have to rely even more heavily on Arik Armstead, Ruke Orhorhoro, and rookie Albert Regis.
With the trade deadline approaching, we recently took a look at the Jaguars' salary cap situation and their 2027 draft capital, which will be important factors in determining if a deal can be made.
With insight fromSpotrac, here are a few potential trade targets at the defensive tackle position.
Vita Vea, Bucs
Vea is consistently one of the better run defenders at the nose tackle position and he can get after the QB as well.
Grover Stewart, Colts
Would the Colts make an in-division trade? Stewart has proven to be stout against the run.
Jordan Davis, Eagles
This would be a home run swing by James Gladstone. It would cost a lot to land Davis, but he's a high-impact player.
Dalvin Tomlinson, Chargers
An addition that would bolster the defensive tackle rotation and provide an experienced presence at nose tackle without Hamilton.
