Jacksonville Jaguars' rookie offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnonhad a very good debut in the team's preseason opener in New Orleans.
Pregnon would end up playing 32 total snaps at left guard, and according toPFF's metrics, he allowed only one pressure over 18 pass-blocking snaps. Pregnon also graded out well in the run game.
Head coach Liam Coen came away impressed as well.
"He did some nice things," Coen said on Monday. "He did some really nice things. Moved people in one-on-one situations. Decleated a guy on a pull. On the interception, had an unbelievable block where he decleated a guy on a clean up. He flashed, that was for sure. He flashed, he flashed in the joint as well when he got some opportunities with the ones."
With the Jaguars dealing
with injuries along the offensive line, Pregnon's performance could potentially earn him more opportunities with the starters moving forward, specifically at right guard.
That said, it sounds like the Jaguars plan to take their time with Pregnon, allowing him to continue developing.
"It's a process," Coen added, "not something we're trying to push, it's just when the time comes he'll be ready and he's trying to work through that and the continuity with the group. You're not seeing as much as he's going to see obviously when we get going, pumping the brakes a little on it, but for what he was able to do in the ops that he had, we were pleased with him."
Most of Pregnon's snaps at Oregon came at left guard, which is where he's often lined up in Jacksonville behind Ezra Cleveland. With Patrick Mekari sidelined, Jonah Monheim and Wyatt Milum have often taken the right guard reps.
