One of the Jacksonville Jaguars'offseason additions had a strong showing during the team's second training camp practice on Thursday.
In John Shipley's post-practice recap over at Jaguars on SI, he noted that defensive tackle Ruke Orhorhoro "had a great day."
"I know pads are not on, but I thought Ruke Orhorhoro had a great day," Shipley wrote. "He would have had a sack and a few other pressures in team drills, as well as a tackle for loss."
As Shipley wrote, it's important to note that the pads are not yet on, which can make evaluating the play in the trenches challenging. That said, production is production.
The Jaguars acquired Orhorhoro in a trade this offseason with Atlanta that sent Maason Smith to the Falcons.
A former second-round pick, Orhorhoro's
raw production totals won't jump off the stat sheet. But as his role increased last season, the underlying metrics show a player who can add more pass rush juice to the Jaguars' defensive front.
In total, Orhorhoro logged four sacks and 30 quarterback pressures, but ranked 51st out of 121 eligible defensive tackles inPFF's pass rush productivity metric.
An added pass rush presence, particularly from the defensive tackle unit, is a need for the Jaguars in 2026 and can help take this unit to new heights in Year 2 under Anthony Campanile. How quickly Orhorhoro can hit the ground running and his level of play this season will go a long way in determining how productive this interior pass rush unit is as a whole.
