One of the Jacksonville Jaguars' position groups continues to be ranked quite low, even after a sound Week 1 performance.
Pro Football Focus has put together its latest offensive line rankings after watching the first week of games, and the Jaguars' unit came in at No. 28.
Understandably so, the Jaguars' offensive line unit didn't enter the season ranked well either. This group dealt with numerous injuries throughout training camp, not to mention that whether or not this unit could perform better in the run game was one of the bigger question marks entering the year.
That said, against a good Browns' defensive front, the Jaguars' offensive line unit held its own. Jacksonville's trio of running backs averaged 4.8 yards per carry, while Trevor Lawrence
was pressured at the sixth-lowest rate among all quarterbacks.
While the Jaguars' ranking doesn't reflect how well this unit performed, PFF did acknowledge that if the offensive line continues to play at this level, they will quickly ascend the weekly rankings.
"The Jaguars looked significantly better than this ranking, particularly in pass protection, in the Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns, with only left tackle Anton Harrison producing a PFF Pass Block Win Rate below 92.0%. Center Robert Hainsey was arguably the biggest concern on the unit heading into the season, and if he can be around the 60.7 PFF grade he was in this game throughout the season, this is a group that will climb quickly."
Not only for the Jaguars but for every offense, consistent success begins with the offensive line unit providing a steady run game to lean on and time in the pocket for the quarterback.
