The Jacksonville Jaguars made a trade before roster cutdown day, reportedly acquiring quarterback Quinn Ewers from the Miami Dolphins.
Adam Schefter is reporting that the Jaguars and Dolphins are swapping 2028 Day 3 draft picks in exchange for Ewers.
So how does this addition alter the Jaguars' 53-man roster? Let's take a look.
Quarterbacks (2)
Trevor Lawrence, Quinn Ewers
There are two paths the Jaguars could go down. With Ewers being a 2025 seventh-round pick, the Jaguars could keep Mullens and have Ewers be the third quarterback on the roster in a developmental role.
Or with Mullens' play being up and down for much of the year, perhaps the Jaguars put Ewers right into the backup role. Although still a young player, he does have starting experience from last season.
My early guess is that Ewers will be the backup, which won't require the Jaguars to keep a third quarterback, taking a roster spot away from another position group.
Running back (3)
Bhayshul Tuten, Chris Rodriguez, LeQuint Allen
While Ameer Abdullah could certainly have earned a roster spot, getting four running backs active on Sundays and regular touches is a tough task.
Wide receiver (5)
Brian Thomas Jr., Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers, CJ Williams, Josh Cameron
I wondered if Austin Trammell could make a push for the sixth wide receiver spot this summer, but CJ Williams and Josh Cameron capitalized on their opportunities.
Tight end (3)
Brenton Strange, Nate Boerkircher, Tanner Koziol
Quintin Morris' contributions on special teams and his blocking abilities gave him a path to making the roster as the fourth tight end. That said, it's been a relatively quiet summer for him.
Offensive line (10)
Cole Van Lanen, Ezra Cleveland, Robert Hainsey, Anton Harrison, Walker Little, Wyatt Milum, Emmanuel Pregnon, Jonah Monheim, Chuma Edoga, Daniel Faalele
IR designated to return: Patrick Mekari
With it being reported that Mekari will "miss some time," I have him starting the season on injured reserve. That opens up a roster spot for Chuma Edoga.
Defensive line (11)
Josh Hines-Allen, Travon Walker, Danny Striggow, BJ Green, Zach Durfee, Wesley Williams, Arik Armstead, Albert Regis, DaVon Hamilton, Ruke Orhorhoro, Matt Dickerson
Rostering six defensive ends is a lot, and not all will see regular playing time, but the Jaguars showed us last year that they are willing to go heavy at this position and develop players. The defensive tackle position was pretty easy to put together.
Linebacker (6)
Ventrell Miller, Foye Oluokun, Dennis Gardeck, Jack Kiser, Branson Combs, Jalen McLeod
I've switched out players at that final linebacker spot often this summer, but I'm going with McLeod in my final prediction. He had a strong close to preseason, can double as a pass rusher, and possesses more upside than Jahlani Tavai and Yasir Abdullah.
Cornerback (5)
Travis Hunter, Montaric Brown, Jourdan Lewis, Jarrian Jones, Jabbar Muhammad
Christian Braswell could make the roster, but to me, there's been too much up-and-down play.
Safety (5)
Antonio Johnson, Eric Murray, Caleb Ransaw, Jalen Huskey, Rayuan Lane
This position group seems to be pretty well set.
Special teams (3)
Logan Cooke, Ross Matiscik, Cam Little
No mystery here.
