What is the story about?

After trading for quarterback Quinn Ewers, the Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly releasing veteran Nick Mullens.

Once the Ewers trade became official, this seemed to be an inevitable outcome for Mullens.

Mullens finished the preseason completing 14-of-21 passes for 160 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

His play throughout the summer and even dating back to offseason programs was often up and down.

The Jaguars signed Mullens during the 2025 offseason. His familarity with Grant

Udinski, after spending time in Minnesota, and operating in an offensive scheme similar to Liam Coen's made him a valuable backup option to have behind Trevor Lawrence with a new system being implemented.

However, the Jaguars are now well past that stage. Ewers will assume the backup role moving forward.
