This looked a lot like the Week 1 version of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
After their ugly loss to the Denver Broncos last week, the Jaguars rebounded nicely with a dominant 35-6 win over the reigning AFC Champions, the New England Patriots.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence only had 182 passing yards, but threw three touchdowns to three different receivers. Jacksonville also found some success in the run game with 137 yards and two touchdowns. The defense also went off with three turnovers, including Travis Hunter’s first NFL interception.
Here is a look at the good, bad, and ugly from the Jaguars’ second win of the year.
The Good
Jaguars' bounce back: Jacksonville looked much better this week going against the Patriots, averaging 5.2 yards per play on offense,
with increased rushing efficiency and better play overall from the offensive line unit. The defense also delivered an excellent performance. After letting last week's game slip away in the second half, the Jaguars showcased their usual resiliency under Liam Coen.
Wide receivers: Last week, Parker Washington was the Jaguars’ leading receiver. This week, it was Meyers who had seven receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown. The unpredictability of who is going to step up as Jacksonville’s leading receiver each week makes their offense incredibly dangerous, especially with some flash plays from Josh Cameron in both of the Jaguars’ wins.. Meyers, Washington, and Cameron all had touchdowns in this game.
Travis Hunter INT: Jacksonville made a huge splash in the 2025 NFL Draft when they traded up for Heisman-winner Travis Hunter. Unfortunately, he missed most of last season due to injury. In this game, Hunter finally got his long-awaited first NFL interception, and it came at a crucial time for the Jaguars. Jacksonville already had a 14-3 lead, but the Patriots were threatening as they were down to the two-yard line. The interception by Hunter resulted in a touchback and gave the Jaguars’ offense back the ball.
Big plays from Jaguars' defense: Jacksonville came away with three takeaways in this game, which the Jacksonville offense then turned into 14 points. The New England offense also made its way to the red zone three times, but failed to come away with a touchdown.
The Bad
Explosive pass plays: This has been an issue for the Jaguars' defense this season, and while it wasn't as prevalent as last week, nor did the big plays lead to points, the Jaguars still surrendered two plays of at least 34 yards and two others of at least 21 yards to the Patriots' passing game. Drake Maye would end up averaging 8.0 yards per pass attempt.
Penalties: Against a better team, having seven penalties for 56 yards could be costly. However, it did not hurt them today, especially because New England had nine penalties for 68 yards. Jacksonville will want to clean up the penalties in future games.
The Ugly
The Jaguars won 35 to 6 -- there isn't anything worth putting in the "ugly" category.
